Characteristics
Cap: 3-5 cm in diameter, curled at the top; often tan in color, fading to white or cream at the margins. The flesh within is white, but air causes it to bruise blue.
Gills: Grey at first, then purple and finally black as it ages. Veils attached to the gills are a characteristic of juvenile specimens.
Stem: Medium length, straight, white or cream color; bruises blue when broken or touched.
Color of spores: dark purple
